Pro-Trump, Anti-Science Group Turning Point USA Has Spread Lies About Coronavirus and Voter Fraud

JACKSON, Wyoming, October 27, 2020 -- The Teton County Democratic Party is strongly condemning the involvement of the far-right, pro-Trump group Turning Point Action, an affiliate of Turning Point USA, in the Town of Jackson’s mayoral and town council races.

The anti-science group, which has funded fake accounts on social media that spread lies about the coronavirus and voter fraud, has now set its target on the Town of Jackson’s campaigns.

Turning Point Action has sent mailers and flyers promoting Republican mayoral candidate Michael Kudar, Republican town council candidate Devon Viehman and unaffiliated town council candidate Jim Rooks. Additional mailers smear Jackson mayor and Democratic town council candidate Pete Muldoon, as well as town councilor and Democratic mayoral candidate Hailey Morton Levinson.

We adamantly oppose the influence of anti-democratic groups like Turning Point Action, who use their influence to misinform citizens about key public health and voting measures for political gain, in our local elections. As fellow Teton County citizens, we call on the local candidates involved to also unequivocally condemn the efforts by Turning Point Action.

Though we may have policy disagreements, we believe that our local strength in Teton County comes from a shared belief in science, public health and facts across the political spectrum. Turning Point Action’s behavior threatens to undermine that strength, and we must be vigilant against their actions to maintain truly independent local elections.
