New executive director, field director on board

Just a quick announcement about some new faces at party central. The state party Executive Committee has hired a new executive director and new field director, both of whom started working for the state party on June 1.
Executive Director Brandon Owens brings extensive experience in rural politics to the position, having served as the campaign coordinator for the Alabama Democratic Party during the 2006 election cycle. He has over 10 years working for Democratic candidates and causes in the Southeast. Brandon worked with the Alabama Restaurant Association and founded the Alabama Beverage Licensees Association to lobby the state legislature and municipalities. He has also handled legislative matters for the speaker of the Alabama State House and the chamber's Ways and Means Committee. Brandon attended Auburn University as an undergraduate and taught classes on state and local government at the University of Alabama while completing graduate coursework. But to be sure, he is an Auburn Tiger at heart.
Brandon is replacing departing Executive Director Kyle DeBeer, who has concluded his wildly successful four-year stint with the Wyoming Democratic Party. Kyle has moved to Washington, D.C., to assume the deputy director position with the Association of State Democratic Chairs. That organization helps state Democratic parties work more closely together and share best practices. Our loss is the ASDC's gain.
Also new this month is Field Director Thomas Schwarz. Tom was field coordinator for the Montana Legislative Campaign Committee during the 2006 elections, when he helped recruit and train volutneers for voter outreach. He is a native of Idaho Falls and recently graduated from Boise State, where he was active in the College Democrats group on campus and received a bachelor's degree in political science. Tom replaced Kaydee Dahlin, our field director for the 2006 election cycle who left the state party to pursue organizing opportunities in Africa.
So now our team is in place and working even now toward a successful 2008.
