Welcome to the Democratic Party of Teton County, Wyoming!

STATE CONVENTION A ROUSING SUCCESS!

 MAY 23RD AND 24TH

HOSPITALITY, ORGANIZATION AND ENTERTAINMENT were the backbone of a convention that energized and inspired 450 delegates, alternates and family members from all over Wyoming.  Convention Chair, Bonnie Koeln earned many kudos.  It was the first time ever held in Jackson and we are proud of its success.

A talented, diverse and impressive slate of 18 delegates was selected to go to the National Convention in Denver in August.  Two eighteen year olds were included, Willie Neal of Jackson and Layha Spoonhunter of Ethete.

Five Super Delegates include:  Governor Freudenthal, State Chairman, John Millin of Cheyenne, State Vice-Chair, Nancy Drummond of Sheridan, National Committeeman, Pete Jorgensen of Jackson and National Committeewoman, Cynthia Nunley of Lander.

Others from Teton County in addition to Jorgensen and Neal, are Jean Jorgensen and Marcia Kunstel as Obama alternates, Chuck Herz on the Rules Committee (Obama) and Story Clark on the Credentials Committee (Clinton.)

Luncheon speaker, Bill Broyles of Jackson was one of the stars of the day, speaking with a deep level of personal intensity about his son’s tours in Iraq and the state of our country.  The speech text can be seen on this site though “you had to be there” to fully appreciate his talent.  Bill is a screenwriter, most famous for Cast Away, Apollo 13, Jar Head, and others.  A lot of people were mumbling about how he should be running for office.

The Platform and Resolutions Committee worked long and hard on Friday and were rewarded with general acceptance of their work without major modifications during the Saturday afternoon Platform debate.  Bill Batten of Glenrock did a marvelous job as Chair, striking a good balance between the pressure of time and the desire for all to be heard.  To see the complete platform, click on Issues: Where We Stand.

Governor Schweitzer of Montana and Governor Freudenthal exchanged jokes and jabs along with serious content and inspiration during banquet remarks on Saturday evening.  Governor Schweitzer ended his speech by raffling off  his beautiful bolo tie to aid the Democratic Party.  It was eventually purchased by Joe Albright of Jackson after a spirited bidding war.  Both Governor Freudenthal and Nancy were present throughout the event and could be seen in deep conversations with their constituents.

Photography by Swopes Mountain Photography, LLC of Jackson memorialized the event and included many portraits of Wyoming people that will be treasured for years. Check out the photo album on this site to see some of your friends!
